Bush Opens Up

Over the past week, former President George W. Bush has opened up about his mistakes during his presidency in his new book, Decision Points. He also explains why he isn't commenting on the issues our current President is supporting. He writes about the decisions he makes during his presidency, what his thought process was behind those decisions and why some people feel he made mistakes. Three specific issues he addresses are, the Iraq war, the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and the mistreating of inmates in prisons. MSNBC writes, "Former President George W. Bush admits in his memoir 'Decision Points' that his 2003 “Mission Accomplished” speech and his demeanor in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina were some of the professional and personal mistakes that he made. In his first one-on-one television interview since leaving the White House, the former president sat down with Matt Lauer and opened up about his regrets." I believe that George Bush did a good thing by coming out with a new book that states his though process on his ideas while he was president. It shows that we Americans don't know what truly happens in the White House. His decisions were based on the current effect but the long term effect. He gained a lot of respect from many different people by doing this. He talked to the Today show, Oprah, and other shows about his book, and the decisions he made. When he is asked the question about helping current president Barack Obama, he always replies, "He already has way more people telling him how to do his job, he doesn't need one more."

  1. I believe former president George Bush made a great choice by publishing his book. No longer would have to be made at him for the decisions he has made, especially involving his atitude toward the aftermath of hurricane Katrina.

Bush was a good president in my own sight however just because he wrote a book dosent mean Obama has to deny his experience, while its true that people are telling him how to do his job it cant hurt him any, to ask a question to a president that went through alot for our country he should at least listen to what the people have to say.

  3. I think Bush writing a book on his mistakes shows that overall he knows he messed up, but he is standing up for his mistakes and explaining himself. This shows that he has good character. I think Bush could offer helping advice to Obama because of the long amount of experiance he had in the White House. I think that after writing this book, people will view Bush differently if they read it. He might be viewed as more of a people person and people may forgive him for some of the mistakes he may have made during his time in the White House.

  4. i think that it was a very smart decision on the former presidents part to write this book to show how hard it can be to know what to do or how to handle situations about very important issues. People are quick to blame the president for every issue and problem we face as Americans but we also need to put ourselves in his shoes and how difficult that role could be. By writing his book he can hopefully amend his poor decisions he once made and maybe we can all look at another side of George W. Bush that maybe we havent seen before.
